This article explains how to bill zero dollar claims for reporting purposes. To bill a $0 claim for reporting purposes, enable the Zero Dollar Claims rule by going to Practice Settings > Billing Rules. When the Zero Dollar Claims rule is toggled on, Elation automatically tags $0 claims with the reporting code RP. The clearinghouse will then accept the $0 claim instead of rejecting it. A few implementation details:
  • The reporting code is RP.
  • It is applied at the claim level, not the charge level.
  • If the claim is marked RP at the claim level, an entire $0 claim will not be rejected by the clearinghouse.
