Overview
What is an ERA?
An Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) is an electronic version of an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) sent by insurance payers. It contains detailed payment information including allowed amounts, adjustments, and patient responsibility. Why is Viewing ERAs important?
ERAs enable efficient payment posting by providing structured payment data that can be auto-posted to claims. This reduces manual data entry, speeds up payment processing, and minimizes errors.Workflow Instructions
Viewing and Auto-Posting ERAs
- Navigate - Select the ERA menu from the Payments drop-down.

-
Filter ERAs - You can filter which ERAs you see using the drop-down buttons, then further narrow the results with the search box.

-
View ERA - Click the link on the left to view a PDF version of the ERA. You can also choose to download the ERA for your records.

- Auto Post - Click on the Auto Post Now button. You’ll see a confirmation box before you continue. The system will first scan the ERA for issues that would cause a system error. If errors are found, the ERA will be labeled “Cannot Auto Post” and must be manually posted as a payment. Otherwise, the ERA will auto-post.
We do not advise auto-posting ERAs with Denials, to avoid the creation of clerical errors.

Why Does This ERA Say Cannot Autopost?
Occasionally, an ERA will be unable to autopost. This is most often due to:- Missing/Mismatched Claim Info - If the ERA is missing claim info (e.g., Superbill ID), the ERA will be unable to autopost
- Missing Metadata - Occasionally the Payer will fail to include pertinent metadata attached to the claim data
-
Review - Once auto-posted, review the payment for accuracy. Look for things like negative balances or zero payments. To go straight to the payment, click the Auto Posted button.

- Mark Reviewed - Now that you have either auto-posted or manually posted your ERA and are satisfied with the results, click Mark Reviewed to remove it from the default list.
