What is Certified Electronic Health Records Technology (CEHRT)?
Certified Electronic Health Records Technology (CEHRT) is a certification program administered by the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP)/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) which is a US department under Health and Human Services (HHS). The ONC coordinates with other federal and state agencies to align rule making (example- coordinating with CMS to require providers to use immunization registries bidirectionally and updating criteria to bidirectional functionality). The certification program is regulated by federal rulemaking, which means the ONC has to publish a proposed rule, accept comments from the public, and refine to a final rulemaking which then becomes regulation for the program. EHRs are not required to be certified, but EHRs that choose to become certified have to meet rigorous certification standards that are regularly updated. Providers and health systems are required to use CEHRT for various government programs and should understand what certification requirements they need to meet their own program requirements.Elation as a Certified Electronic Health Records Technology (CEHRT)
