This guide walks through setting up practice branding from Practice Settings. For an overview of what branding is and where it appears, see the Practice Branding Introduction.

Setup

  • Branding is managed from Practice Settings > Branding.
  • If your practice has set the branding settings to Admin Only, only Admin Level Users can make changes. Other users see the branding settings as read-only.

Opening the branding settings

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Open Branding under Practice Settings.
  3. On the Practice Branding card, click + Add branding (or Edit if you have set branding up before).
The Branding settings page with the Practice Branding card, showing the practice logo, the brand color, the Edit link, the Publish button, and a banner noting that the branding is not live yet until published.
  1. In the Practice Branding window, upload your logo by selecting a file or dragging it into the upload area.
  2. Review the logo in the live preview, which shows how it looks on each patient-facing surface.
  3. Click Save changes.
The Practice Branding window with a logo uploaded, Change and Remove options beneath it, a Brand color field, and a live Forms preview in desktop and mobile with a Submit and continue button in the brand color. Your logo file must meet these requirements:
  • File type: PNG or JPG. Other types, such as GIF or WebP, are not accepted.
  • File size: under 20 MB.
  • Image size: under 12 megapixels.
The easiest path is a square logo. A square image looks best across all screen sizes, from the small mark in an email header to the booking site on a desktop, and it avoids the warning you get for a wide image. For a crisp result everywhere, including email where the logo displays largest, use an image that is at least 200 by 200 pixels. Your practice name always appears as text next to the logo, so a square mark rather than a wide wordmark keeps the name from appearing twice.
If you choose a file that does not meet the type, file size, or image size requirements, Elation tells you right away when you pick it and does not upload it. If your logo is very small or much wider than it is tall, Elation shows a warning but still lets you use it.

Setting your brand color

  1. In the Practice Branding window, find the Brand color field, below the logo.
  2. Enter a hex color (for example, #043927), or click the color swatch to open your browser’s color picker and choose a color.
  3. Review the color in the live preview across each surface.
  4. Click Save changes.
The Practice Branding window with the Brand color field, using the color picker eyedropper to select a color from the logo while the live preview updates to reflect the chosen color. To remove a color you have set, click Reset to default. This returns the surfaces to the standard Elation color.
The easiest way to get a color that matches your logo is to use the eyedropper. When you open the color picker from the swatch, choose the eyedropper tool and click a color directly in your logo. This pulls your exact brand color without needing to know the hex value.
Your brand color themes the primary buttons, the booking step indicator, the patient forms progress bar, the membership plan card, and the color bar on payment pages and email. Links, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdown selections, and page titles keep their standard colors so the pages stay readable.

Button text stays readable automatically

You do not need to pick a text color for your buttons. Elation sets the button text to light or dark automatically based on the brand color you choose, and adjusts the button background shade where needed, so the text always stays readable for patients. A color is never rejected. You can see this in the live preview as you choose a color: the button text switches between light and dark to match. If your color is on the lighter side, Elation shows a warning, since very light colors can be hard to see on a white page, and the preview shows you exactly how the buttons will look before you publish.

Publishing your branding

Your logo and color stay a private draft until you publish. Patients only see your branding after you publish it.
  1. In the branding settings, click Publish.
  2. To stop showing your branding to patients, click Unpublish. Unpublishing keeps your logo and color saved as a draft so you can edit them privately and publish again later.
The Publish button and the draft status banner appear on the Practice Branding card, shown in the settings page screenshot above.
To publish, you need at least one of the two: a logo or a color. You can publish a color with no logo, or a logo with no color.
  1. Open Practice Settings > Branding and click Edit.
  2. To replace the logo, upload a new file and click Save changes.
  3. To remove the logo entirely, remove it in the window and click Save changes. If you still have a brand color set, your branding stays published with the color alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can I only view the branding settings, not change them?

Your practice has set branding to Admin Only, so only Admin Level Users can change it. Ask an Admin Level User in your practice to make the change, or to adjust the Admin Only setting.

What happens if I unpublish?

Patients immediately go back to seeing the standard Elation branding. Your logo and color are kept as a draft, so nothing is lost and you can publish again whenever you are ready. For more questions, see Practice Branding — Frequently Asked Questions.
