Practice medications represent a medication that can be used for a prescription or a documented med that does not come from the standard formulary. Thus it has no coding for an NDC or RxNorm. Here is an example:

Obsoletion

Practice medications cannot be deleted, as they may be referenced by a prescription or documented med. But if you don’t want the practice medication to appear when a user searches then you can mark the practice medication as obsolete by setting the obsolete_date to a non-null date in the past.
