This value must match the `id` of one of the physicians retrieved via the [Find Physicians](/articles/rest/practice-api/physicians/list-physicians) endpoint. **primary\_care\_provider\_npi** represents the patient's primary care provider. This person may be in a different practice. This field is not required. **primary\_care\_provider** is a read-only field that provides the internal Elation id of the collaborator record that is created within your practice to represent your practice's connection with the patient's primary care provider.
