# Removing a Patient

> Learn how to mark a patient as duplicate or inactive in Elation Billing

This article explains how to mark a patient as duplicate or inactive in Elation Billing.

## Overview

At this time, deleting a patient is not a feature provided. This workaround allows you to mark patients as duplicates.

<Note>
  Changes made this way will NOT carry over into the EHR. Any changes made to active charts will be overridden the next time the patient's EHR chart is updated/saved.

## Workflow Instructions

### Marking a Patient as Duplicate

1. Find and copy the duplicate patient's ID.

2. Navigate to **Billing** → **+ New Superbill**.

3. Select **Add Patient**.

4. Search for the duplicate ID and select the duplicate chart.

5. Select **Edit**.

6. Add your marker ("DUPLICATE", **DO NOT USE**, etc.) in front of the patient's first name.

7. **Save** the demographics.

8. **Close** the page (don't create a new superbill).
