# Intro to the Patient Payment Workflow Update

This article provides an overview of the Patient Payment Workflow Update for Elation EHR + Billing practices.

## Overview

With the Patient Payment Workflow Update, collecting Patient Payments has never been easier!

## Notable Features

Alongside updates for Real-Time Eligibility in the EHR (with automatic RTE run for each day's appointments) and automatic synchronization of Payer Lists, you can save time with the following automated features:

* **Automatic Payment Flow** - New Patient Payments collected in the EHR automatically flow to Elation Billing
* **Automatic Balance Application** - Any Patient Payment taken for an Outstanding Balance automatically applies to that balance in Elation Billing
* **Automatic Copay Application** - Any Copay taken (with matching Payment and Service Date) automatically applies once balance responsibility is transferred to the Patient

## Updates to Previous Workflows

There are notable updates to existing workflows:

* **Limited Payment Editing** - In Elation Billing, the ability to Edit Patient Payments has been limited to **Check/Reference #** and **Posting Dates**. Any other edit should be made in the EHR.

* **New Payment Button Change** - In Elation Billing, the **+ New Payment** button under Payments has been replaced with **+ New Insurance Payment**. Patient Payments can now be collected from the Patient's page or the Copayment Collected box on a Superbill.

### Coming Soon

* Triggering a Patient Payment from Elation Billing will automatically add the Patient to the payment dialogue
* A Check Number field will be added to the EHR and will flow to Elation Billing automatically
