# Questions of the Month - December 2025

## Interoperability

### Can I retrieve a patient's records from a hospital or another doctor's office?

Elation has a Carequality integration that can be used to exchange patient health information across health platforms and vendors. Elation’s Carequality integration unlocks access to data available via Commonwell, and eHealth Exchange as well as data from other EHRs and data repositories connected to Carequality. You can query for patient files, such as Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs), visit notes and results in various formats (PNGs, PDFs, TIFFs, etc.) as long as the patient’s affirmative consent to query and share their data from or to outside care entities has been obtained and recorded.

Data pulled from the Carequality network is solely dependent on what data is made available by [Carequality-enabled providers](https://carequality.org/active-sites-search/) with mutual patients. ### What options exist to control which patient charts are shared via Carequality?

The patient (and/or patient’s legal guardian or representative) must consent to querying and sharing the data in their chart. You should follow applicable state and federal laws regarding minor consent.

To record patient's consent, go to the **Consents** section of their Patient Demographics. If a consent isn't recorded in the Patient’s Demographics, you will be prompted to record one before querying for patient data.

### Can you create recurring appointments in Elation?

### Can patients cancel their appointment via their Passport account?

No, patients cannot cancel their appointment via their Passport account. Patients can only cancel their appointments from appointment reminders if your practice allows it. [Click here for more information](/articles/appointment-reminders#cancel).
