# Product Updates — October 2026

> New features and improvements released across Elation EHR, Elation Billing, and the Developer Platform in October 2026.

## Elation EHR

### Customize Patient Guidance for Passport Messages

Provide instructions and set expectations for patients before they send a message, including when to use the feature and when to seek urgent care, with new customizable settings for each Patient Passport message type. The patient-level guidance appears in a "Before you send a message" screen once the patient selects a message type and before they start typing. Practice Admins set the guidance for each message type in **Settings > Patient Passport Messages** under **Message guidance**; each note can be up to 250 characters. If you do not specify custom guidance for a message type, patients continue to see Elation's default guidance, shown in their selected language. Patients see the default guidance automatically if your practice has enabled patient-initiated messaging. For more information, see [Setting message guidance for patients](https://help.elationhealth.com/articles/passport-message-guidance.md).

### Self-Service Order Test Management

Drive clinical consistency and maintain orderable tests without a support ticket. You can now create, edit, and delete your imaging, cardiac, pulmonary, and sleep order tests, and add CPT codes to them, in **Settings > Order Test Management**. Select practices see this labeled as **Lab & Order Test Management**.

Use the **Manage \[Order Type] Tests** option in the Test field's dropdown list to jump straight to the right section of Settings. These settings follow the Admin-Only toggle, so only approved users can manage them. A test's CPT code is sent with the order so the imaging or testing center can see it. For more information, see [Order Test Management Guide](https://help.elationhealth.com/articles/order-test-management.md).

### New Layout and Chat History for Elation AI

Pick up where you left off with Elation AI. Elation AI, previously referred to as Clinical Insights, now opens in a floating dialog with a new **Chat History** sidebar, so you can view and continue earlier conversations. The experience should feel familiar if you already use Elation AI, and the update lays the groundwork for adding new capabilities over time. For more information, see [Elation AI](https://help.elationhealth.com/articles/elation-ai).

### Easily Manage Your Support Cases

Resolve support requests without leaving the support chat. You can now action cases directly in the chat:

* **Add a note** to a case. Admins can also add notes to cases opened by other users in their practice.
* **Close** a case.
* **Reopen** a recently closed case.
* **See the live status** of an open or closed case.

These updates give you more autonomy over your workload, and more visibility into your cases which may help reduce rework and delays.

### Searchable Letter, Referral, and Rx Template Lists

Find the right template faster, even with a large library. A new search option has been added to the Referral, Letter, and Rx template lists. The searches also load twenty-five templates at a time instead of loading all templates at once, reducing delays. To access the search fields in the Referral and Letter activities, select **Templates > See All Templates**. The search field displays at the top of the Rx Templates list by default.

### Enhanced Appointment Type Settings

Make appointment types easier to edit. **Settings > Calendar & Booking > Appointment Types** now opens in a screen with left-hand navigation across four sections: **Appointment details**, **Auto-created visit note**, **Patient forms**, and **Booking site**. Each section has a short description under its heading, replacing the hover tooltips, and the dialog keeps you focused on the appointment type you're creating or editing. For more information, see [Calendar Guide](https://help.elationhealth.com/articles/calendar-and-booking-settings.md).

## Elation Billing

### Deleted and Merged Charts Now Handled in Billing

Keep new claims on the right chart. When a patient chart is deleted or merged in the EHR, Elation Billing follows the change, preventing new claims on the obsolete records. Additionally, undeleting or unmerging a chart in the EHR also makes it active again in Elation Billing.

* **Hidden from new work:** These charts no longer appear in patient search, the All Patients list, or the patient picker for new claims.
* **Clear notice:** The patient page still opens from an existing claim or a direct link, and shows a notice that the chart is inactive. For merged charts, the notice links to the active chart. Edit and EHR Record are disabled on these pages. The chart that remains after a merge also lists the charts merged into it.
* **History stays intact:** Existing claims can still be opened, edited, and resubmitted, and payments, ERA posting, balances, statements, and history are unchanged.

Merges from before this release show the inactive notice without a link.

## Developer Platform

### Self-Service API Impersonation

Turn on impersonation for your integrations without waiting on Elation. Customers with self-service API credentials can now independently enable impersonation for any of their APIv2 credentials. Impersonation lets authorized, correctly configured API clients perform actions attributed to a specific user in the practice, rather than to the underlying API system account. Impersonation is off by default and is enabled per credential. For more information, see [User impersonation](https://help.elationhealth.com/articles/rest/overview/user-impersonation.md), [Core Developer FAQ](https://help.elationhealth.com/core-developer-faq.md#can-my-integration-act-as-a-specific-user-instead-of-the-api-account), and [Self-service API credential management](https://help.elationhealth.com/articles/self-service-api-credential-management.md#allowing-api-impersonation).
